Simon Cowell visits London clinic for nicotine addiction
23 January 2012
Simon Cowell has reportedly made a New Year’s resolution and has promised his mum that he will stop smoking.
The music mogul is back in the UK, filming for the 2012 series of Britain’s Got Talent and insiders claim that he is struggling so much to overcome his nicotine addiction, that he has sought professional help at a London clinic.
The X Factor boss is said to be feeling his age and although he is healthy right now, insiders say that the 52 year old star is aware that he has been smoking since a teenager and is concerned that after his father died of a heart attack and his grandfather of lung cancer, he could be heading down the same path if he doesn’t cut out the bad habit.
An insider told The People: “Simon’s mother and some of his closest friends have been nagging him for some time about trying to stop smoking. His grandfather Robert was a heavy smoker who died of lung cancer. His father suffered a heart attack. It’s made Simon think long and hard about his own health now.”
PR guru Max Clifford confirmed the reports and told the newspaper that the star is determined to make 2012 the year that he became a non smoker. He explained: “Simon is a very healthy guy who looks after himself diet-wise very well. But he has made a New Year’s resolution to give up, or at least significantly cut back, on his smoking.”
Meanwhile, Cowell is reported to have been enjoying this year’s Britain’s Got Talent auditions massively, with insiders saying that the presence of David Walliams on the new judging panel has made the new series much more fun and upbeat. He is causing some problems of his own though, as sources claim that Cowell and producers are now worried that they may have to cut loads of hilarious footage from the finished episodes, because Walliams’ jokes are too smutty for early evening TV.
