Stop Smoking Hypnosis
What is stop smoking hypnosis and how does it work?
The programs available from the Harley Street Stop Smoking Clinic online use stop smoking hypnosis techniques and methods to help you to quit smoking, but what does this mean?
Hypnosis helps you stop smoking on a subconscious level
Hypnosis is an altered sense of consciousness that allows you to access your mind on a ‘subconscious’ level in order to make changes, break habits, and form healthier behaviours around your goals.
The subconscious is the ‘deeper level’ of your mind in charge of the aspects of your actions, behaviours, and identity that you do not intentionally or deliberately control. For example, for the majority of your life you do not consciously need to remind yourself to take your next breath, and yet your lungs continue to inhale and exhale without prompting. Likewise, your subconscious may take over common everyday tasks, such as tying your shoelaces or brushing your teeth, which you may complete whilst your mind is consciously occupied by other thoughts.
Scientists and experts refer to this in different terms, whether ‘subconscious’, the ‘unconscious’, or simply ‘the mind’. Whilst different professionals have a variety of opinions on the correct term, there is a theory that there is a part of our consciousness that stores information and our ‘inner code’ beyond a conscious level.
If you are looking to break a habit such a smoking, you may already know of scenarios that seem to trigger your desire to have a cigarette. Maybe a coffee in the morning, or a stressful day at work. Part of your subconscious programming has been encoded to believe that a cigarette is a solution, treat or positive routine for you in reaching certain goals – whether that is starting your day, or relaxing after a difficult meeting.
You are probably addicted to the ritual of smoking
Many people seek out stop smoking hypnosis once they have tried every nicotine replacement therapy they can. They find that patches, gums, and lozenges do not work for them. Or, they go weeks or a month without smoking (plenty of time for the nicotine to leave your system), only to have a stressful event lead them back to reaching for the packet of cigarettes as their ‘emotional crutch’.
They slowly come to realise that they are not addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes so much as they are addicted to what smoking means to them. On a subconscious level you may have developed a relationship with cigarettes in which they are your therapist, your meditation instructor, your friend, your confidante.
Breaking a relationship sounds much more daunting than breaking a physical dependency, but that is exactly why many people struggle. However, this is also why many people have great success with stop smoking hypnosis, and why they seek out programs that give them the right tools to deal with their habit on a subconscious level.
Do something different
If you want different results, try something different.
Returning back to patches, gums, and other techniques repeatedly can leave you in a cycle that feels demotivating and exhausting. Always wondering if this next lot will wean you off the nicotine and allow you to stop smoking for good.
For some people, this approach just isn’t enough, and they need to make consistent changes on a deeper level to remove the habit of smoking from their daily routine.
Stop smoking hypnosis allows you to make these changes by allowing you to program new, healthier habits onto a subconscious level, whilst removing unhealthy associations, beliefs and patterns. These are achieved through various techniques including hypnotic suggestions, and positive affirmative reprogramming. This approach allows you to work to become free of the triggers and associations that lead you back to the ritual of smoking, strengthening your willpower and resolve, and allowing you to emotionally ‘breakup’ with cigarettes for good.
But does it really work?
We have experience with 1000s of clients that tells us that YES, stop smoking hypnosis really does work.
However, there are also studies that have been conducted to examine the effectiveness of stop smoking hypnosis compared to other smoking cessation methods.
To find the most effective way to stop smoking, researchers from the University of Iowa conducted a meta-analysis study, combining the results of more than 600 studies totaling nearly 72,000 people from Europe and America.
The results, which were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, included 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6,000 smokers, clearly showed that hypnosis was the most effective treatment and was three times more effective than Nicotine Replacement.
Other Methods to Give Up Smoking
- Combined Therapy – 29%
- Acupuncture – 24%
- Nicotine Replacement – 10%
- Self-help books/guides – 9%
- Willpower alone – 6%
- Advice from GPs – c.1%
There are other studies that provide similar results.
One showed that out of 71 test subjects, those who used guided imagery such as that found in our hypnotic audios, were twice as likely to quit smoking long term (over 2 years) than those who did not.
Another showed that out of 43 smokers, 39 were noted as remaining ex-smokers in their follow ups (between 6 months and 3 years after their sessions).
However, we find numbers clinical and cold, we understand the impact that stop smoking hypnotherapy can truly have everytime we get a review, an email, and a personal recommendation from someone who we have helped. From singers who have improved their voice and career, to athletes, to individuals transforming their lives and doing spectacular things they never previously thought possible.
Clinical studies are great for showing the effectiveness of a treatment, but we enjoy hearing your stories most because they are real, authentic proof of the work we do everyday to help people live healthier, happier, and more fulfilled lives.
